— State Department of Transportation crews are on standby to begin prepping roads for Friday’s winter storm.

Around 200 NCDOT trucks are on standby in Raleigh Wednesday morning. For this storm, crews will rely on salt as opposed to brine.

Before Sunday’s storm, crews laid brine, the salty solution that leaves white lines on the roads. NCDOT officials said brine won’t be effective for Friday’s storm because rain expected Thursday night would wash the solution away before the snow and ice event begins.

Officials ask drivers to give trucks space to work if they see them.

Also on Wednesday, Raleigh-Durham International Airport will hold a press conference on their plans for the weekend. More than 150 flights were canceled at the airport over Sunday’s ice storm, and Friday’s winter event has the potential to be a greater impact.

If you have travel plans over the next few days, it’s a good idea to contact your airline now, RDU officials say. Some airlines are already offering vouchers for travelers with weekend travel plans.
