Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Sending Nearly 100 Trucks Out to Handle Incoming Winter Weather – WEVV

According to the Kentucky department of transportation, about 100 snow trucks will be driving up and down Kentucky roads over the next 24 hours as they try to keep roads safe for Bluegrass drivers.

As soon as word got out that a winter weather event was coming Kentucky’s way, road crews began making preparations for Thursday  morning.

“We’re going to be busy,” said Kiersten Jaggers of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. “We’re going to be really busy. Hopefully, if we only get about 1-3 inches, it will still create some chaos, but our guys are ready.”

The transportation cabinet has brought in extra workers and extra trucks to the area to help prepare for and manage the snowfall that is coming, and crews began their efforts earlier in the week.

“Yesterday, the guys started brining, and they’ll continue today doing those ABC routes,” said Jaggers. “They’re just making sure all of their equipment is ready, all of their chainsaws are ready, anything that they would need to clear the road, so all of that equipment is ready to go.”

And though crews will be trying their best to keep roads clear, that isn’t always possible as the temperature can get so cold that their chemicals will stop working, so if you’ve got to get on the road Thursday morning, Jaggers has some advice for you.

“If you are going to be driving tomorrow, and you have a commute, you need to leave early, and you need to drive slower. If you’re driving on a roadway that a has snow or ice on it, then you need to reduce your speed. That’s the best thing you can do.”

And the department told 44News they’re preparing for anywhere between 1-4 inches of snowfall to come down beginning sometime on Thursday morning.
