In a news release, police said there have been more than a dozen thefts of the trucks that have occurred since Friday throughout the city that the Edmonton police Targeted Response to Auto-theft Prevention (TRAP) team is investigating.

The thefts have specifically targeted 2018-2020 model year F-150s equipped with a push-button start and thieves are using “sophisticated technology” to get through the trucks’ anti-theft systems.

“Our TRAP teams are investigating these thefts and focusing extra resources on identifying those responsible,” said Sgt. Ian Strom of the TRAP team in the release. “In the meantime, we want to alert owners of these trucks so they can take extra steps to protect their property.”

Owners are advised to park their trucks in a secure location, such as a garage or a well-lit, high-traffic area. Owners should also remove all valuables from the vehicle and use a steering wheel lock if possible.
