California Adopts ‘Landmark’ Air Rules for Trucks, Small Engines – Bloomberg Law

Air regulators in California released a set of mandates on Thursday that aim to slash emissions from heavy-duty trucks and smaller, off-road engines.

The California Air Resources Board adopted measures under the Heavy-Duty Vehicle Inspection Program that require trucks to undergo similar nitrous oxide tests that passenger vehicles complete every other year. The board also updated regulations requiring most small engines, such as lawn mowers, to be zero-emission by 2024.

The Coalition for Clean Air in a statement called the “landmark” truck requirements and small-engine rules the “biggest step forward for clean air in over 12 years.”
